Mixed luck for India in badminton

National champion Pullela Gopichand moved into the quarterfinals while Aparna Popat failed to clear the first hurdle in the men's and women's singles respectively at the ongoing Asiad.

Ranked 50 in the world, Gopichand outclassed Ssouth Korea's Park Sung Woo 15-7, 15-2 with brilliant rallies in a 37-minute encounter.

Aparna went down fighting to Malaysia's Mee Feng Ing 7-11, 8-11, in 30 minutes.
