Kaushik unhappy with camp arrangements

Chief coach of the senior hockey team M K Kaushik did not want the ongoing conditioning camp at the SAI Centre, Bangalore, for the Indian team for the Commonwealth Games at Kuala Lumpur to be shifted to Chennai as programmed earlier.

In a letter to Indian Hockey Federation secretary K Jyothikumar, Kaushik said since there was only limited time available, and he did not want to shift the camp, as it would definitely disturb the concentration of the team.

Besides, various scientific support, including sports medicines, exercise physiology, psychology etc, which were required for the prepration of the team were available at the SAI Centre, he added.

Moreover, there would not not be any diversion of mind for the players, which in turn would help them to practice with more concentration as all the facilities were available under one roof.

However, Jyothikumar said that the IHF has informed Kaushik that since the weather conditions at Chennai would be similar to the one in Kuala Lumpur, the team could go there and play a few practise games. Besides, as the Indian team would be playing most of the matches under lights during the Games, sufficient arrangements could be made here by installing lights to get used to the atmosphere, he added.
