Laver returned to ICU

Australian tennis legend Rod Laver was returned to the intensive care unit of the UCLA Medical Centre in Los Angeles, following a fever.

A UCLA spokesperson said the stricken Laver suffered a neurological condition consequent on that fever. However, hospital authorities add that this is not likely to be serious, and that the tennis ace should be out of ICU by weekend.

Director of the UCLA Stroke Center Dr. Neil Martin said that Laver, who suffered a stroke last month while taping a television interview, had suffered partial loss of movement in his right hand, arm and leg. "It is impossible to say whether he is going to have a 100 per cent recovery," Martin said. "But I expect a dramatic improvement in his condition over the next few months, there is no doubt that his splendid physical condition will aid his recovery."
