Bhupathi moves ahead in IstanbulShailesh SoniMahesh Bhupathi defeated Eyal Ran, 1-6, 6-3, 6-2 to reach the quarters of the Istanbul Challenger, where he will now play 6th seed Petr Luxa. The win gives him a total of 21 points total thus far, enough to bring him up to around 350 in the ATP rankings. If Mahesh goes through into the semis, he will get 42 points. Quite a few Indians were in France over the last couple of weeks, trying their luck in the futures series there. Mustafa Ghouse and Anand Radhakrishnan played the qualifiers for the $10,000 futures, but did not make it into the main draw after winning one or two matches. Mustafa, who used to play doubles with Harsh Mankad, was in the doubles main draw with Rodrigo Laub of Brazil, but lost in the French F2 and F3 futures first rounds. Incidentally, Stanley Stanger is listed as from India in the draw sheets from the Fench Tennis Federation (FFT), anyone ever hear of the lad? Interestingly, out of 64 players in the qualifiers, it happened that Anand Radhakrishnan went up against Mustafa Ghouse in round two. Anand won 6-4, 6-4, but lost in the final round of qualifiers. Thus, the trip up there didn't help any of them in getting any points.
