He is the first Israeli prime minister to visit India since the two
nations established full diplomatic relations in 1992. Though relations between the two nations brightened considerably after
the BJP-led government came to power in Delhi, it took Kargil to cement
the relationship. 9/11 made both nations decide to collaborate on
fighting terrorism. The fact that Ariel Sharon will be in India on
September 11 is perhaps a not-so-subtle reminder of that collaboration.
