Another blow for Thirunavukkarasu in TN
The rival All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazagham group
led by its general secretary S Thirunavukkarasu suffered yet
another setback.
Thirunavukkarasu's appeal against the Madras high court's single judge order -- declaring the parallel general council meeting convened by him on June 3 as illegal -- was on Wednesday dismissed by a division bench.
The order, passed by Justices Shivraj Patil and P D Dinakaran, upheld Justice S S Subramani's order in a civil suit filed by former Tamil Nadu chief minister and AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalitha. She had sought permanent injunction restraining Thirunavukkarsu and his supporters from convening or holding the general council meeting.
The single judge had also restrained the Thirunavukkarasu group from implementing the decisions and resolutions passed at the June 3
meeting.
However, the bench permitted the seven members of Parliament,
who had pledged their loyalty to the Thirunavukkarasu group, to
implead themselves in the main suit as additional defendants.
Notwithstanding Wednesday's ruling, the Election Commission could
independently decide which of the two groups is the real AIADMK, the bench observed.
