Dreaded dacoit gang arrested in Madras
The Madras police have arrested a ten-member dacoity gang which had struck terror in the city in recent months.
Six pistols and stolen goods worth Rs 800,000 have been recovered from them.
Police Commissioner V K Rajagopalan said those arrested
hailed from Tirunelveli and Tuticorin districts. They were
involved in 15 dacoities including the July 31 incident
at Mylapore, when the gang fired at a youth and assaulted another and threatened two office-going women.
He said the interrogation of three gang members -- Revolver Murugan, Peter and Senthil who were arrested last week -- revealed that the gang had bought six revolvers at Patna.
Following a quarrel over sharing the loot, the gang split
into two groups led by Revolver Murugan and Dhanasingh, who had
plotted the Mylapore dacoities.
Dhanasingh and a few others are still at large. The police have launched a hunt to nab them, he added.
