The army has ordered a departmental inquiry by a three-member team led by a brigadier-level officer into the activites of Lt Col S P Purohit arrested for his alleged involvement in Malegaon blasts [Images]. "The inquiry is in the form of an internal audit that would identify and pinpoint the lapses and lacunae in the existing system to enable suitable measures to be instituted to prevent the recurrence of such incidents," an official statement issued by the army stated.
"The inquiry would run concurrent to the investigation already underway by the Anti-Terrorism Squad and the custody of Purohit had not been sought by the army," it said.
Purohit was among 11 persons arrested for his alleged involvement in the September 29, 2008 Malegaon blasts in which six persons were killed.
