The Congress core committee on Wednesday discussed the violent situation in Bihar and Maharashtra, particularly the statements made Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray [Images], Udhav Thackeray of Shiv Sena and the front page editorial in Sena party newspaper Samna.

"It is possible that while discussing the national situation the core committee may have deliberated upon on the law and order situation in Maharashtra, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh [Images]. UP Chief Minister Mayavati has written a letter to the prime minister about the manner in which one of the residents of her state was beaten to death in Maharashtra," Minister of State for Home Shakil Ahmed told rediff.com.

The Union government has taken the developments very seriously and decided to take strong action.

Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav [Images] admitted that some miscreants in Bihar have caused largescale damage to railway property and he promised registering of FIRs.

Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party condemned all forms of violence, whether it took place in Maharashtra, Bihar or any other place.

Party spokesman Ravi Shankar Prasad, who also belongs to Bihar, wanted the issue to be discussed in Parliament.
