Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa on Friday said his government would consult the state's advocate general on the Hogenakkal drinking water project in Tamil Nadu, which he had opposed in the run up to the polls.
"We will consult the advocate general," Yeddyurappa told the media after the first cabinet meeting, in which Uday Holla was appointed as the AG, while replying to a question on the project.
The anti-Hogenakkal agitation began after Yeddyurappa visited Hogenakkal located on Tamil Nadu side of the border on March 16 and protested the project's implementation.
The Rs 1,334 crore project, aimed at providing drinking water to Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts, bordering Karnataka, was put on hold by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi in April after violence broke out. Karunanidhi put the project on hold stating that his government would "wait" till a popular government was installed in Karnataka.
After the three-phased polling in Karnataka ended on May 22, Karunanidhi gave the go-ahead for resumption of work on the project and directed officials to complete the work as scheduled
