The Bharatiya Janata Party, which fell three seats short of a simple majority in the Karnataka assembly elections, is all set to form the government after its talks with three independent candidates proved to be fruitful.

BJP sources told rediff.com that the talks with three independent candidates, who won the polls on Sunday, have been successful and they are ready to help the BJP form the government.

With their support, the BJP will manage to achieve the 113 mark to gain a majority in the 224-member Karnataka Legislative Assembly. BJP sources also said that they are still in talks with two other independent candidates. However, talks with them have been inconclusive so far, and the BJP will have a final picture by the end of the day.

Meanwhile, senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley, who is in charge of the BJP in Karnataka, will arrive in Bangalore on Sunday night to participate in the Legislature Party meeting on Monday morning. The meeting is scheduled to be held at the residence of B S Yeddyurappa, near Race Course Road.

At the meeting, Yeddyurappa will formally be elected as the leader of the Legislative party, following which he will stake a claim before Governor Rameshwar Thakur, to form the state government.
