Life will never be the same for Anjali Mal or Tapasi Das of Gokalnagar in Nandigram [Images]. On March 14, 2007, Anjali's right arm was severely injured in police firing, while Tapasi lost mobility after a bullet pierced her waist.

They have decided to stay away from the memorial function that the opposition Trinamool Congress has organised near Adhikaripada, near the spot where 14 people were 'killed' in police firing.

For these women, this is nothing but an attempt by the opposition party to win sympathy before the panchayat elections.

The Communist Party of India-Marxist, on the other hand, has decided to keep mum. None of the CPI-M members have been ready to give their opinion on what happened in Nandigram on March 14, 2007. If some were 'busy', others were reluctant to comment on an incident being 'looked into by the Kolkata high court'.

TMC chief Mamata Banerjee and activist Medha Patkar will participate in the congregation near Adhikaripada. Information and broadcast minister Priyaranjan Dasmunsi is also expected to attend the event.
