Amit Kumar, the alleged kingpin in the kideny transplant racket, on Monday claimed he had performed 250-300 surgeries and said he has no remorse for his actions.

Kumar said the Human Organ Transplant Act in the country was "so stringent" that "people die with no one willing to take care of them".

Kumar claimed he had saved lives of nearly 250-300 people.

"I have not stolen anyone's kidney... It was a willing donation of organ and we were the facilitators for performing the operation," Kumar, who was arrested in Nepal last month and is now in the custory of Rajasthan police, told India TV, according to a release by the news channel.

He claimed his patients organised their own donors.

Asked how much money he had made by performing the operations, he said, "I have only taken my fees. Whatever I earned, I have paid income tax for the same."
