Unable to trace her exam number on the list of successful candidates put on the Internet by the Maharashtra SSC Board, a frustrated 15-year-old X standard student ended her life by setting herself ablaze.

A couple of hours later her school distributed mark-sheets to successful students in which her name figured with 61 percent of marks.

A mason's daughter-- Rani Kadam-- who had appeared for the March 2008 Board exam, went to a cyber-caf� on along with some of her friends to know the result of SSC exam on the Internet, as the schools were to declare it at 3pm, said the police.

Even as her classmates happily traced their seat numbers in the list of passed candidates, an anxious Rani could not find her name despite repeated surfing.

Shattered and convinced beyond doubt that she had failed in the exam, the girl returned home, went to the kitchen latching the door from inside. She doused herself with kerosene and set herself ablaze.Rani died before admission to hospital, added the police.

At around the same time when Rani breathed her last, her school released the list of successful students in which her name was duly mentioned with a decent score of 61 per cent.
