In order to check illegal wildlife hunting in Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Orissa, a wildlife intelligence office was set up in Jabalpur at the Centre's behest, official sources said on Tuesday.

''This office would gather secret information about anti-wildlife activities and effective action would be ensured against the culprits,'' said Divisional Commissioner Prabhat Parashar at a meeting of the taskforce, which was constituted to check deforestation and encroachment on forest land, on Monday

Parashar said two senior officers had already been posted to the office. ''With the Centre's cooperation a Wildlife Health and Forensic Centre would be set up in Jabalpur and in this regard a proposal to the tune of Rs 79.26 lakh has been sent to the Centre,'' Parashar added.
