An India Chair has been established in the Humanities and Social Sciences Department at Shenzen University in southern China.
A Memorandum of Understanding on the Chair was signed between the Indian Council for Cultural Relations and SZU by India's Ambassador to China Nirupama Rao and University President Professor Zhang Bigong in Shenzen.
Under the MoU, Shenzen University would host a visiting Indian professor in the capacity of a Chair in Humanities and Social Sciences for a 14-week semester every academic year, over each of the next four years, beginning autumn 2008.
ICCR would implement the MoU on the Indian side and be responsible for selecting the professor in consultation with the Shenzen University, a statement from the Indian Consulate at Guanzhou in Guangdong province said.
The India Chair would also deliver public lectures in Indian literature, culture, social science during the semester.
During her visit to Shenzen University, Rao also addressed the students on India-China relations.
