The Centre on Tuesday said the governments of Bihar, Chattisgarh and Jharkhand have failed to contain Naxalism despite all possible support extended to them to fight the menace.

"While Naxalism in the country has weakened, governments of Bihar, Chattisgarh and Jharkhand have failed to tackle the menace effectively," Union Minister of State for Home Sriprakash Jaiswal told reporters.

Addressing a press conference jointly with Union Minister of State for Personnel and Public Grievances Suresh Pachouri, he lauded the Andhra Pradesh government for containing Naxal activities and advised the other states affected by the ultra Left wing violence to follow the steps taken by the Congress-ruled southern state.

Pachouri rejected Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan's allegations about the "step-motherly" treatment to the state by the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre.

He claimed the Centre had extended maximum assistance to the BJP-ruled state which was "neglected" by the NDA regime.

"Before making the allegations, the state government must utilize the assistance provided by the Centre. The state has failed to properly utilise funds given by the UPA government under various schemes," he said.
