Arunachal Pradesh has sought help from the Centre for rapid modernisation of its police force in view of the threats posed by insurgents.
Sources in Itanagar said the state government has asked for enhancement of annual central grant for police modernization. The current annual Central grant for police modernization stands at Rs 9 crore per year and the state has requested the Prime Minister to make it Rs 20 crore facilitate faster modernization.
The government has informed the Centre that there was serious threat from insurgents in Tirap and Chanlang districts and areas located along the border with Assam.
Besides, presence of Naga rebel groups in Tirap and Changlang districts of the state, militants from the proscribed United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) have set up mobile bases inside forest areas of Arunachal Pradesh bordering Assam.
