The director of Central Bureau of Investigation Vijay Shankar said on Tuesday that its United States counterpart - the Federal Bureau of Investigation - was not doing enough to ensure the capture of the main accused in the hijacking of flight IC-814.
"Though three persons - Abdul Latif, Yusuf Nepali and Dilip Kumar [Images] Bhujel - were handed down life imprisonment sentences by the court, the actual perpetrators and those involved plotting the crime are roaming freely in Pakistan," Shankar said.
According to sources close to the director, he had made a presentation to former US secretary of state Collin Powell and later to the director of the FBI and his deputy and told them that those involved in the hijacking were roaming freely in Pakistan.
Shankar said that the kidney scam, which is currently being investigated by the Haryana, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh police forces, should come to the CBI as it has both national and international ramifications.
"We have got a copy of the letter written to the department of personnel from Haryana police asking the Union government to hand over the investigations to the CBI. As and when we receive an order, we will begin work on the case," he said.
