A woman was killed and four persons were injured when a car bomb went off in an area inhabited by government officials in Lahoreon Wednesday. The woman, identified only as Farzana, was killed in the explosion that occurred at 9.20 am in the capital of Punjab province when the bomb hidden under the mini-truck went off blowing up the vehicle to tatters. Her husband was among those injured in the blast, officials said. City police chief Pervez Rathore said the explosives were hidden in a pick-up with a government number plate. The vehicle was parked outside the home of a doctor in a sensitive area known as the "Government Officers Residences" a locality where senior government officials and judges live. The injured were taken to a local hospital. No group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack. Police said they believed the explosive-laden vehicle was to be moved to another crowded area but this could not be done by the unknown attackers due to security measures in place. Rathore said police are trying to determine if the vehicle was stolen as it had a government number-plate. Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani [Images] condemned the blast and directed authorities to submit a report on the incident at the earliest.
