Unruly mobs set on fire on Wednesday to the vehicle of Jammu Bharatiya Janata Party general secretary Ajay Jamwal and tried to torch his official residence in Gandhi Nagar area, eyewitnesses said.

Some unidentified people barged into the official residence of Jamwal in the afternoon and burnt his vehicle. They later damaged window panes and tried to set the house ablaze.

Fire brigade personnel reached the spot on time and doused the fire, eyewitnesses said. Jamwal was not at his residence when the attack took place.

Vice-president and spokesperson of the BJP's Jammu and Kashmir [Images] unit, Hari Om said the  incident was aimed at spreading fear among those who are supporting the ongoing agitation for transfer of land to the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board.
