CRPF's Inspector General Sunil Kumar Jain was on Thursday shifted out of violence-hit Srinagar by the Centre as more changes were in the offing in Jammu and Kashmir [Images] Police with likely replacement of senior police officers in the Valley.
Jain, a 1984 batch IPS officer from Assam and Meghalaya cadre, was asked to "proceed on a tour to headquarters pending transfer", official sources said. No replacement for the post has been announced.
While there was no reason given out for this move, sources claimed that his functioning was hampered by some state police officials, resulting in heated exchanges at various meetings.
The Centre was also contemplating replacing Inspector General of Police (Kashmir range) Shiv Mohan Sahai and the likely change could be his counterpart in Jammu K Rajendra Kumar.
The changes come within hours of late night protests in Srinagar [Images] and adjoining Badgam district where people were asked to assemble on roads to protest against the killing of 21 people including Hurriyat leader Sheikh Aziz.
The situation in the Valley continues to remain tense though authorities relaxed curfew in the morning. Army has been kept on standby to meet any eventuality.
