At least 10 people were killed and 15 injured when militants targeted a Pakistan air force bus with a powerful bomb in the northwestern city of Peshawar on Tuesday.

The PAF bus was heading to a base near Peshawar when it was attacked on a bridge in Kohat Road locality, police said, adding, many of the dead and injured were PAF personnel.

It was not immediately known if the bomb was planted on the bus or on the bridge and triggered by remote control as the vehicle was passing through the area.

The blast was so powerful that it uprooted electricity poles by the side of the road and created a large hole in the bridge. The explosion also hit other cars and motorcycles. The PAF bus was completely destroyed.

The injured were rushed to hospitals in Peshawar. Many of the bodies were charred beyond recognition.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack but such strikes are usually blamed on the local Taliban [Images].

Security forces sealed off the site of the blast soon after the attack and investigators began scouring the area. Officials said up to 30 to 40 kg of explosives could have been used in the attack.
