The Bahujan Samaj Party, making an all-out bid to make its presence felt in Karnataka assembly poll by fielding candidates in all 224 constituencies, on Thursday said it would try to replicate its successful social engineering model in Uttar Pradesh.

Besides giving nominations to both forward and backward castes, the party will also make the demand for reservation for poor among upper castes as its main poll plank, BSP general secretary P G R Sindhya said.

"We will fight for a constitution amendment demanding reservation of below poverty line families among upper castes and 30 per cent reservation in job in private sector and BSP's ideology is not against caste Hindus. We have given tickets to all castes, including those which remained neglected by other political parties like the Congress, and Bharatiya Janata Party," he said.

The BSP had successfully wooed the forward caste and backward caste voters in the last UP assembly elections that gave the party an emphatic majority.

The party is not opposed to PPP (Public-Private Partnership) projects and only wanted that these projects guarantee job protection to those appointed in them, he said.

BSP chief Mayawati will campaign in Devanahally and Kollegal on May 5, Hospet and Chitradurga on May 12, Hubli and Belgaum on May 17 and Bidar and Gulbarga on May 18, he said.

The party released an 'appeal' from Mayawati, in which she highlighted the policies and programmes of her party and appealed to the electorate to support the BSP in the coming elections.
