Prime Minister Manmohan Singh [Images] on Tuesday arrived in Jharkhand to a black flag protest by Bharatiya Janata Party activists over price rise, as police arrested nearly 100 of them in Ranchi and Bokaro.

The Bokaro police picked up approximately 25 BJP activists, including its state unit spokesman Biranchi Narain, for taking out a procession with an effigy of the Prime Minister to protest against price rise.

The police picked up another 50 BJP demonstrators at Hinoo Chowk, about two km from the Birsa Munda airport in Ranchi, for staging a demonstration.

Earlier, the BJP had announced that it would hold black-flag and effigy burning protests across the state to protest against the Prime Minister's visit, in view of spiraling prices.

The Prime Minister is visiting Jharkhand to lay the foundation stone of the Rs 9,000 crore expansion and modernisation project of the Steel Authority of India Limited in Bokaro.
