Pakistan on Monday described the joint military exercise by United Kingdom and India in Jammu and Kashmir [Images] as illegitimate.

''Pakistan feels that this is illegitimate activity because Jammu and Kashmir is an internationally recognised disputed territory and more than any body else, Britain should be aware of it,'' Foreign Ministry spokesperson Tasneem Aslam said in Islamabad on Monday.

She said that Pakistan had made a demarche with both Britain and India last week and expressed its concern over the joint military exercise. She also expressed concern over India's decision to allow trekking at Siachen.

''Pakistan has already lodged its protest with India,'' Aslam said, adding that the Indian military's aggression into Siachen, its presence there and any activities that it sponsors in this area is illegal.

Aslam pointed out that the Indian presence in Siachen is illegal and it's a clear violation of the Simla Agreement. ''We have a composite dialogue process with India and Siachen is one of the issues being discussed,'' she said.

Aslam said that Pakistan would certainly raise the issue in the on-going composite dialogue.
