In yet another case of alleged police brutality, a sub inspector searching for a criminal at a house ruthlessly lashed out at a minor girl present at the scene.

The seriously wounded eight-year-old girl, Mantasha, has since lost her voice and had been admitted to a hospital, police sources in Mau said on Thursday.

A police team had raided a house in the area on Tuesday night to nab an alleged criminal.

The SI leading the team allegedly hit the girl and wounded her seriously after the team failed to find the culprit, sources said.

District police chief P K Srivastav said an inquiry had been ordered into the incident and the Khiribagh police outpost in-charge Sivaji Singh had been removed and sent to lines.

Additional Superintendent of Police Ramesh would be conducting an inquiry into the matter, Srivastav said adding stern action would be taken against the erring policeman if found guilty.
