Angry flood victims in Bihar's Khagaria district looted cattle-feed from a goods train coming from Punjab on Wednesday to save their cattle, many of which had died of hunger. Their action has rung alarm bells at state capital Patna.

Police sources said villagers looted around 35 truckloads of cattle feed after breaking open a rail rake when the train stopped near Mansi village in the district on its way to deliver relief to other flood-hit areas.

A railway official at Khagaria railway station confirmed the incident.

Sources said flood victims looted cattle-feed in the presence of officials of the local administration and Railways.

The incident assumes significance as it occurred at a time when a Central team was visiting Khagaria to assess the damage caused by the flood.

In the last one week, angry mob of flood victims have attacked government officials, held violent protests and blocked roads over insufficient relief that has been provided to them.

Over 21 million people in nearly 10,000 villages under 225 blocks spread in 20 districts have been hit by floods. Standing crops worth Rs 80,537.28 crore in 17.13 lakh hectares have been destroyed and over 600 animals, mostly cows and buffalos have been killed.
