The Congress on Wednesday said it had no plans to explore possibility of government formation in Karnataka and demanded immediate dissolution of the state assembly and early elections.

"In the interest of the state and its people, we are demanding that the Centre and Governor Rameshwar Thakur dissolve the assembly and call for early elections," Congress general secretary and Karnataka in-charge Prithviraj Chavan.

"We unequivocally demand that the Centre end the uncertainty, horse trading and blackmailing threats in Karnataka," he urged.

All political parties--the Congress, the BJP and the JD-S have earlier demanded dissolution of the state assembly, Chavan said.

"Shockingly BJP and JDS decided to come together to form the government, he said, adding, "it is nothing but opportunism, power-grabbing and attempt to loot Karnataka."

He stressed that at no point of time his party did stake claim to form government. Chavan, who held discussions with state unit leaders including KPCC president M Mallikarjun Kharge, former chief minister N Dharam Singh, CWC member Dr G Parameshwara, former deputy chief minister Siddaramaiah and others, will meet the governor later in the day.

Chavan deplored motives attributed to his party that it was pressuring for dissolution of the state assembly or trying to form a government as "baseless". "We are only discussing possibilities of early elections," he said.
