Kanpur riots: 15 get life term

A local court on Wednesday sentenced 15 persons to life imprisonment holding them guilty of killing 11 people in the violence that erupted after Babri Masjid demolition in December, 1992.

 

Additional District and Sessions Judge S M Hasseb pronounced the judgment after 15-year-long proceedings. This was probably the only case where the verdict was given in connection with the post-Babri demolition violence.

 

Pushpendra Yadav, Prem Narayan, Bihari Lal, Ratan Lal, Sri Pal, Krishan Kumar, Amarpal, Rajjan Sacchan, Deependra Sacchan, Raj Kumar, Naval Kishore, Manoj alias Babblu, Rajkumar (son of Ram Sachit), Raj Narayan and Rama Shankar were found guilty of the incident, which took place during communal riots on December 10, 1992.

 

According to prosecution, they killed Manjoor, Veeru, Shahid, Ramjani, Anees, Chote, Sazma, Akhtari Begum, Saddam Hussain, Shaukeen and Zakir Hussain in the Govindnagar area.
