Congress on Wednesday said it was not averse to a tie up with the Nationalist Congress Party in the forthcoming assembly elections in Gujarat.

"The NCP is our partner in the United Progressive Alliance. We are not averse to any tie up with that party," All India Congress Committee general secretary B K Hariprasad told PTI.

His statement has come at a time when the Congress is making a determined effort to wrest power from the Bharatiya Janata Party in the state ruled by Narendra Modi.

Failure to avoid division of secular votes in the 2002 assembly polls had resulted in considerable losses to the Congress is the western state.
