Former prime minister and Janata Dal (S) H D Deve Gowda will meet the Bharatiya Janata Party leaders for a smooth transfer of power in Karnataka.

This was revealed by BJP president Rajnath Singh in an informal chat at a party thrown by Arun Jaitley in New Delhi on late Sunday night.

"Before coming here, I got inputs from Yashwant Sinhaji, who is mediating on behalf of the party and he told me that Gowda may fly to Delhi to meet the central party leadership," he said.

 When asked if this meant that there would be no transfer of power on October 3, Rajnath did not offer a direct answer.

"Now we are talking of hypothetical situations," he said. But the party leadership is not positive about the transfer of power from by Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy to BJP nominee Yediyurappa.

Kumaraswamy's stand has become rigid after the party did better than its alliance partner in the urban bodies elections.

Yashwant Sinha, who is in charge of  Karnataka, has been asked to stay back in Bangalore and hold meetings with the party MLAs and find out ways and means to find a solution to transfer of power.

The party is also open to withdraw support as a last resort, sources said.
