Faced with allegations of rape and murder after the Communist Party of India-Marxist's recapture of Nandigram, the West Bengal government on Thursday asked the Criminal Investigation Department to send a team to investigate and submit a report.

A 10-member CID team led by deputy superintendent of police Swapan Chatterjee left for Nandigram to probe the allegations, additional director general of police, CID, Bhupinder Singh said. "The team would be monitored by the inspector general of police, CID, D P Tarenia from the CID headquarters," he said.

The allegations included four cases of murder and three of rape filed after November 10 following the recapture of Nandigram.
