The Congress on Wednesday termed the Nandigram violence as a national tragedy and asked the Centre and West Bengal to work together to provide compensation to victims.
"Nandigram has been a national tragedy and the situation is still far from normal. Both the state and the Centre should work towards providing adequate compensation to the victims," Congress MP from Rajya Sabha, Karan Singh said.
BJP MP and former finance minister Yashwant Sinha said the "true character of an individual or a party is recognised only during a crisis. The true face of the CPM has been revealed in Nandigram crisis. There is no difference between autocratic rule of Hitler [Images], Stalin and Buddhadev Bhattacharjee," Eminent lawyer and the Rajya Sabha MP Ram Jethmalani said the government there must quit or apologise and compensate the victims of Nandigram adequately.
"The unfortunate killing and rape of innocent people and the migration thereafter are direct consequence of Communists' wrongdoing there," Jethmalani said.
"We are pleading that Modi government be dismissed because of its wrongdoing and the same logic should be applied [West Bengal]," the MP said.
Samajwadi Party MP Salim Sherwani, however, said, "It is not enough ground for removing an elected government. It is time we rose above the party politics and take some decision in the interest of the people.
