The government has entrusted the task of smoothening out the differences between the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Communist Party of India-Marxist on the kind of discussions that could take place over the Nandigram issue to Parliamentary Affairs Minister Priyaranjan Dasmunsi.
"As you are aware no business could be transacted in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha as the proceedings were disrupted by slogan shouting by the BJP, Shiv Sena and Trinamool Congress members along with other National Democratic Alliance allies. I have been asked to talk to both the parties and work out a middle course so that parliamentary work could go unhindered," the minister told the media at a press conference in Delhi.
He blamed the leader of opposition Lal Kishenchand Advani for beig adamant on inclusion of the comments by Governor Gopal Gandhi and the order of the Kolkatta high court in the draft resolution, and this was not acceptable to CPi-M as the names of governor and high court cannot be included in mutually agreed discussions.
With both Prime Minister Manmohan Singh [Images] and External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee not being in Delhi, there is no likelihood of the two Houses transacting any business even on Tuesday.
NDA leaders who will meet at 10 am on Tuesday said the discussion will centre more on the fall of new BJP coalition government in Karnataka.
"This could also become one of the points that may help BJP in stalling the House," said a senior Congress leader in an off therecord conversation with newspersons.
According to the sources when L K Advani, former deputy prime minister, visited Nandigram along with Sushma Swaraj and Chandan Mitra, over 200 security personnel were deployed in civilian clothes to protect Advani alone.
