Apparently under pressure, the West Bengal Police on Monday said no instruction had been given for the relocation of Central Reserve Police Force camps in Nandigram.

"No such instruction for the shifting of CRPF camps in Nandigram was given by me," state's Director General of Police A B Vora told media persons in Kolkata.

CRPF DIG Alok Raj had on Sunday said that they had been asked by the DGP to shift five camps from the present location.

The situation in Nandigram was much better now than what it was earlier, Vora said.

Maintaining that an 'unnecessary controversy' was being created on this issue, IGP (law and order) Raj Kanojia said: 'It was a misplaced report.'

He said that no shifting of camps had taken place and no shifting was contemplated.    

The DGP had gone to Nandigram on Sunday to review the situation there, Kanojia said.

He said now the main task was to instill a sense of security among the people and create dominance, so that the anti-social elements could not come back.

Kanojia said a joint control room by the state police and CRPF was opened in Nandigram.

"The CRPF and the state police are working in tandem and all logistics problems were solved. No major incident has been reported from Nandigram," he said.
