The West Bengal police on Saturday registered a case of rape after the wife of a Bhumi Ucched Pratirodh Committee supporter said she was gang raped in Nandigram.

The police said the woman from Gokulnagar alleged that three men confined and raped her on November 14, and four men raped her the next day.

She named two of the rapists as Kalipada Das and Sagar Das of the same village.

Medical tests were done on the woman at the Nandigram hospital and if needed further tests would be made at the Tamluk hospital, the sources said.

BUPC president Abu Sufian claimed that the woman's husband was a BUPC supporter and the rapists allegedly belonged to the Communist Party of India-Marxist.
