Gujarat's Criminal Investigations Department, investigating the killing of Sohrabuddin Sheikh in a fake encounter, on Thursday informed a court it had no intention yet to arrest Nathubhai Jadeja, driver of arrested IPS officer D G Vanzara, and also accused one of its own officials of delaying the probe.

Jadeja, who was absconding, surrendered before a court two day ago. He produced himself before the magistrate on Thursday as instructed on May 22.

The supervising officer of the case Geetha Johri was also present in court on Thursday. Filing an affidavit before the court, the CID said that it had no intention of arresting Jadeja at present and treated him as a witness. The CID also requested the court to instruct Jadeja to be present for recording further statements in the case.

The agency also brushed aside his statement, given to court the day he surrendered, that a statement was extracted from him under duress by the previous supervisor of the case Rajnish Rai.

Denying Jadeja's claim, the CID told the court that the statement was recorded in presence of two witnesses and was also videographed. The CID said the recording wherein the deposition of the witness is comfortable can be viewed by the court.

The CID also named one of its own officers, Deputy Superintendent of Police N K Amin, of trying to delay the process of investigation, as the officer's name had been mentioned by Jadeja in his statement as a witness in the case.
