A team from Maharashtra's Anti-Terrorism Squad is likely to be sent to Hyderabad to study the blast that killed 12 people at the historic Mecca mosque in the city on Friday.

"A team led by an additional commissioner of police and having some of our officers is expected to leave for Hyderabad to study the situation," ATS chief K P Raghuvanshi told PTI in Mumbai.

A final decision on sending the team is expected to be taken later this evening and the tension in Hyderabad will be taken into consideration before the ATS team starts from Mumbai, he said.

The ATS, which claims to have cracked the case related to the July 11 serial blasts on commuter trains in Mumbai, had also sent a team to probe the explosion on the Samjhauta Express in Haryana in February.

"As a practice, we send our men to make an on-the-spot study of any blasts wherever there is a sabotage angle," Raghuvanshi said.
