Three IPS officers arrested in connection with the fake encounter of Sohrabuddin Sheikh and the murder of his wife Kausar Bi were on Wednesday taken to different places, to piece together the sequence of events.

"We have taken the three accused IPS officers -- D G Vanzara, Rajkumar Pandiyan and Dinesh Kumar M N to different places including a farm-house where Kausar Bi is suspected to have been eliminated," a police source said.

However, the CID officials are tight-lipped about how she could have been murdered, the source said.

The police custody of the three was extended by four more days on Tuesday.

The three IPS officials were taken to Ilol town of Sabarkantha district, which is the native place of Vanzara, to inspect some sites in the jungle where Kausar Bi is suspected to have been burnt after her murder, the source said.

The three officers were also taken to a farm-house on the outskirts of the state capital Gandhinagar, owned by a friend of Vanzara, as Sohrabuddin and Kausar Bi were kept in hiding there before being eliminated one after the other, the source said.

Investigating officers are taking help of top forensic experts to find any possible trace of Kausar Bi so that DNA tests could be conducted on the samples.

Police sources added that the probe team has also sent for forensic tests the motorcycle on which the Gujarat police claimed that Sohrabuddin was riding when he was spotted and shot at in the wee hours of November 2005 on the outskirts of Ahmedabad.

This claim of Gujarat police has already been proved wrong after the fake encounter probe team admitted to the Supreme Court that there was ample evidence to prove that Sohrabuddin and his wife were picked up by the Gujarat police from a luxury bus while they were travelling from Andhra Pradesh to Maharashtra.

The investigation team has already done a dummy-run of the fake encounter of Sohrabuddin at the same spot where he was killed by eight police bullets in a crossfire, as claimed by the Gujarat cops.

The CID (crime) probe is also likely to question and arrest some more persons, mostly police officers, who were either part of the encounter team or facilitated the hunt for Sohrabuddin, sources said.

The role of a former superintendent of police of Gandhinagar, who is now on deputation in Andhra Pradesh and also two other former officials of the Ahmedabad crime branch and Anti-Terrorist Squad, is also under scanner.
