Relentless in its attack on the ruling Left over the Nandigram violence, the opposition National Democratic Alliance is unlikely to allow Parliament to function on Monday. The BJP has said it will persist with its demand for resignation of West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee.

"It is unlikely that Parliament will function on Monday. We will raise vociferously our demand for resignation of the chief minister who we believe is solely responsible for the brutal police action on villagers in Nandigram," Deputy leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Vijay Kumar Malhotra said.

His comments came a day after leader of opposition L K Advani, who visited the West Bengal village, compared the police firing in Nandigram with the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre.

"We are not satisfied with the Centre's response so far to the events in Nandigram. We want its intervention through invokation of Article 355," Malhotra said.

In the current session, the BJP, which orginally planned to raise its concern in both Houses over surging prices, has instead attacked the ruling UPA firstly over the detention in Argentina of Bofors accused Ottavio Quattrocchi and then over the Nandigram events.
