Amidst tight security the by-elections to Dimapur-I and Tuensang Sadar II Assembly constituencies in Nagaland began peacefully at 7.00 am on Thursday. Election officials said the polling started in all 59 booths peacefully as voters lined up since dawn to cast their ballots to elect 2 MLAs.
Nagaland Chief Electoral Officer C J Ponraj told UNI that some 35,459 voters in two districts of Dimapur and Tuensang are expected to cast voter during daylight.
While Dimapur-I seat has 17,155 voters would cast their ballots in 38 polling stations spread over seven wards of Dimapur town.
In Tuensang Sadar II Assembly constituency, a total of 18,304 voters would exercise their franchise in 21 polling stations spreading over 14 villages.
A four-layer security arrangement has been made deploying the CRPF, Nagaland Armed Police, District Executive Force and Indian Reserve Battalion. All the polling stations would be guarded by the CRPF jawans.
