A senior official of the Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad Deputy Superintendent of Police M L Parmar, an accused in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case, on Friday surrendered before the CID and was arrested, sources in the agency said in Ahmedabad on Friday.
Parmar surrenderd before CID officials at Gandhinagar in the presence of his advocate.
Parmar is alleged to have made accomodation facilities for the joint team of Gujarat ATS and Rajasthan police at two farmhouses in Gandhinagar district where the fake encounter victim and his wife Kausar Bi were kept in 2005.
Just before his surrender, Parmar's advocate told PTI, "My client is innocent and he is not part of any conspiracy as being claimed by the CID."
Like the other policemen accused in the case, Parmar had also applied for anticipatory bail which was initially rejected by the sessions court.
Then he filed anticipatory bail application before the Gujarat high court and later withdrew it.
With this, the CID has so far arrested seven policemen, including three IPS officers.
Dy SP N K Amin, a CID official whose name had also cropped up in the case, had surrendered before the CID a few days ago, but he was let off as he had already procured an anticipatory bail.
The IPS officers arrested, include D G Vanzara, the prime accused, his deputy at the ATS Rajkumar Pandian and Rajasthan cadre officer M N Dinesh.
