Prime Minister Manmohan Singh [Images] has spoken to Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray in order to obtain a consensus on United Progressive Alliance-Left presidential nominee Pratibha Patil, Sena sources said in Mumbai on Saturday.

"The Prime Minister spoke to Thackeray on June 14 evening at around 7 pm on the issue of the Presidential candidate," senior Sena leader Subhash Desai told PTI.

The telephonic conversation between Dr Singh and Thackeray lasted for about four minutes, Desai said.

However, he declined to divulge the contents of the conversation, saying the Sena chief himself would announce the party's stance on Pratibha's candidature on June 19.

Bharatiya Janata Party leaders in the state declined to comment on the matter, saying any announcement on it would be made by Central leaders.
