Rashtriya Lok Dal legislator Qadir Rana has surrendered before a court in Muzaffarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh in connection with a case of obstructing a public servant from performing his duty during a protest three years ago.

He surrendered before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Ranurao on Thursday, after the court issued a warrant against him for not appearing despite repeated summons.

Rana, also an RLD state general secretary, allegedly led a mob which damaged vehicles and blocked highway during a protest against the district magistrate's denial to hold an election meeting in Muzaffarnagar during Lok Sabha polls in 2004.

Six people, including Rana and former parliamentarian Saiduzama, have been charged for causing hurt and obstructing public servant from performing his duty during the protest outside the district magistrate's residence on May 2, 2004.

Rana was released by the session court on bail later in the day.
