An alleged Lashkar-e-Tayiba operative held near the Bangladesh border in April has been sent to judicial remand in Hyderabad in connection with the bomb blast in Mecca Masjid, officials said on Thursday.

Nayeem alias Sameer was earlier in the custody of Mumbai police and was brought to Hyderabad on a transit warrant. He was remanded to judicial custody for 14 days.

Sameer was one of four suspected LeT cadres held by the Border Security Force near the Bangladesh border in April while they were trying to sneak into West Bengal.

Later, he was handed over to Mumbai police for his alleged involvement in bomb attacks on local trains. During a narco-analysis test, Sameer reportedly told Mumbai police that he had transported RDX to Hyderabad, officials said.

This was the second arrest by the Special Investigation Cell (SIC) of city police which is probing the bomb attack in the mosque on May 18 that claimed 11 lives and left over 50 injured.

Earlier, police arrested Shoaib Jagirdar, a close associate of Sameer, from Jalna in Maharashtra on May 25. He is now in judicial remand in Hyderabad.

City police did not find any incriminating evidence against Jagirdar, but it was found that he tried to help Sameer to obtain a passport with a fictitious name through an agent. Jagirdar was arrested under the Passport Act.

Police are now trying to nab three others who unsuccessfully tried to obtain a passport for Sameer, a SIC source said.
