Mohammed Haneef, charged in Australia with supporting a terrorist organisation, is still to see the photographs of his nearly one-month-old daughter Haniya, his wife Firdous Arshiya said.

Two photographs of Haniya, shot in the house, were sent along with Imran Siddiqui, her cousin, who is currently in Brisbane assisting the lawyer in the Haneef case, Firdous told PTI.

In his communication to Firdous, Imran said he still has not been able to show the photographs of his daughter to Haneef. "Imran has not yet met Haneef and is waiting to get the required permission," she said.

"Imran said it would take some time, perhaps a day or two, before he could meet Haneef," she said.

She said the name Haniya, which means 'pleased', was chosen by both of them jointly.

"We decided to name the baby Haniya if it was a girl," she said.

Meanwhile, she said Imran had informed her that there was a lot of public support in favour of Haneef's release. A rally that was organised in Brisbane was attended several people.

"It was not just human rights activists but the ordinary men who were demanding Haneef's release," she said.
