Assuring that his resolve to fight terrorism was "unshakable", President Pervez Musharraf has sought Washington's help to clear "misperceptions" about Pakistan's role in Afghanistan, particularly its efforts to crackdown on Taliban militants.

Musharraf also briefed a high-level US Congressional delegation headed by Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi when it called on him in Islamabad on Saturday night to discuss the India-Pakistan peace process and Islamabad's efforts for the resolution of all outstanding issues, including Jammu and Kashmir.

Musharraf also underlined the need to seize the historic opportunity before the two countries to resolve the Kashmir issue.

The president, who is under intense pressure from the US to step up efforts to clamp down on Taliban militants, told the delegation, "Pakistan's resolve to fight extremism and terrorism is unshakable."

The meeting took place at Musharraf's Army House residence in Rawalpindi just around the same time a suicide bomber blew himself up in Peshawar killing himself and 13 others, including the chief police commissioner of the city and several security officials.

A day before, another suicide bomber blew himself up at the emergency exit of the Marriot Hotel hours before a reception to mark the Indian Republic Day was held.

The discussions covered Pakistan-US relations and regional issues of common interest, according to a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Islamabad.

Officials said a new US bill proposing restrictions on military aid to Pakistan also came up for discussion.
