Asking Pakistanis to desist from militant acts outside the country, President Pervez Musharraf on Saturday fixed the blame of a number of recent blasts and suicide strikes in the country on foreign terrorists.

Seeking support of people in combating extremism, Musharraf also said terrorism and sectarianism posed serious threat to Pakistan's sustained economic development and its status in the global community.

He said foreign terrorists have been involved in explosions and suicide attacks in Pakistan. These terrorists will be crushed, Musharraf told a public meeting in Dera Islamil Khan near Islamabad.

Musharraf urged people to identify these terrorists and said the militants will not be allowed to stay on in the country. He also called upon the people to desist from involving themselves in militant acts outside the country.

"It is our obligation to ensure that the coming generations do not inherit the legacy of chaos and anarchy. The vision of a prosperous and developed Pakistan could only be materialised if we defeat extremism, terrorism and reject sectarianism as these would spell disaster for the country's future," Musharraf said.

"We must choose the path of socio-economic development and discard the path of extremism and sectarianism, which could lead the country to chaos," Musharraf said.
