Pakistan plans to build one of the tallest buildings of the world in Karachi, President Pervez Musharraf has said.

The building will be 1,947 feet high, Musharraf said, speaking at the inauguration of a sprawling park in the port city of Karachi.

"We will make it. We must show the world that this is an emerging, progressive and dynamic country and we are second to none. We know how to handle ourselves. We know what progress and prosperity means and that is what we need to show everyone.

"Plans were afoot to commence a project to develop beach and islands. This will be a mega project of international standard and we hope that in the centre of this project there will be a building 1,947 feet high," he said.

Musharraf said with development projects like these, Karachi would attain a higher stature in the world.

He said a three-year elevated expressway project will be launched on the main through fare in the city Sharea Faisal.

Also, plans were afoot to build mass transit project and elevated train service in the city, Musharraf said.
